- Abstract: Oscillatoria salina is a marine, non heterocystous cyanobacterium belonging to the family Oscillatoriaceae. It exhibits characteristic gliding and oscillatory movements, from which the genus derives its name. Members of this family possess unbranched trichomes composed of disc-shaped cells arranged linearly and lack specialized structures such as heterocysts and akinetes. O. salina performs oxygenic photosynthesis using chlorophyll a and phycobiliproteins such as phycocyanin and phycoerythrin, contributing significantly to global carbon and nitrogen cycling. Ecologically, Oscillatoriaceae act as primary producers and biofilm formers, while biotechnologically, they are recognized for producing bioactive compounds and natural pigments with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics. Two sets of raw sequencing reads, comprising both Illumina short reads and Nanopore long read have been submitted. Additionally, O. salina is notable for its acid-neutralizing ability, thriving across a wide pH range, and for exhibiting strong antimicrobial and anticancer activities in both aqueous and organic extracts.
