  • Abstract: Dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate) is an organophosphate pesticide widely used for pest control but known for its neurotoxic and oxidative stress–inducing effects. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is a critical antioxidant enzyme that protects cells against reactive oxygen species (ROS)–mediated damage. This study investigates the impact of dichlorvos exposure on the expression of SOD at the molecular level. Experimental models were exposed to sub-lethal doses of dichlorvos, and SOD expression was assessed using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and enzymatic activity assays. Results revealed a significant alteration in SOD gene expression, accompanied by changes in enzymatic activity, suggesting oxidative stress induction. The observed modulation of SOD expression indicates that dichlorvos disrupts cellular redox balance, potentially contributing to toxicity mechanisms. These findings highlight the role of antioxidant defense impairment in organophosphate-induced toxicity and provide insights for environmental risk assessment and therapeutic interventions.
