- Abstract: Epstein-Barr Virus is a gamma herpes virus that establishes lytic and latent cycle in oral cavity and has role in various malignancies. Our study explores the involvement of EBV in causing Oral Carcinoma especially focusing viral gene BCLF1. BCLF1 gene encodes the structural protein i.e. Major Capsid protein and is classified as Late lytic gene of EBV. It has role in Virion assembly. To examine the association of EBV protein with oral cancer, we selected a patient who was diagnosed with oral carcinoma. DNA was extracted from the swab sample of oral cavity region of the patient and the amplification of DNA was done using BCLF1 gene primer employing Polymerase chain reaction . The amplified product was then run on agarose gel and subsequently sent for Sanger sequencing to determine the nucleotide sequence of BCLF1. The sequence detail of the patient is presented here. The sequence indicates existence of corresponding latent gene in the patient system.
