Dr. Kavitha Mukund

Scientist

About

Dr. Kavitha Mukund is a systems biologist/scientist at UC San Diego, in the lab of Dr. Shankar Subramaniam. Her research integrates multi-omics, computational modeling, and translational science to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying disease etiology. Her work spans muscle pathologies, cancers and infectious disease immunology, with a recent focus on therapeutic resistance in cancer and tumor heterogeneity. Through several first-author publications in leading scientific journals, Dr. Mukund has advanced understanding of how molecular and cellular dynamics influence disease progression and therapeutic response. Her interdisciplinary collaborations across UC San Diego, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, City of Hope, LSU Health, and King’s College London highlight her leadership in multi-institutional data integration and mentoring of early-career researchers. Collectively, her research bridges mechanistic biology with clinical insight, driving actionable discoveries in drug-resistant cancers and immunocompromised conditions.

DARYA VERAKSA

PhD Student

About

Darya (Dasha) Veraksa is a 4th year Bioengineering PhD student at UC San Diego in the lab of Dr. Shankar Subramaniam. She is studying the biological and gene regulatory mechanisms driving cell state changes in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) tumors, and her current project utilizes spatial transcriptomics data to characterize the spatial heterogeneity of pregnancy-associated TNBC. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University.

Dr Arun Sharma

Scientist, IBDC

About

I am currently managing the Indian Biological Images Archive (IBIA) at the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC), Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, Haryana, India. My responsibilities include leading the IBIA team in the development and maintenance of the archive, biological image data curation, quality control, and visualization of image datasets to ensure adherence to FAIR data principles. My research interests lie in applying artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science methodologies to solve complex problems across healthcare, agriculture, and life sciences domains. I have extensive experience in developing deep learning–based diagnostic and prognostic tools, biological databases, and web-based platforms that facilitate large-scale biological data integration, analysis, and visualization.

Sanjay Deshpande

Scientist, IBDC

About

Scientist at IBDC , Driving Archival, management and analysis of Nucleotide data submitted to IBDC.

Himanshu Bhusan Samal

Data Curator, IBDC

About

Computational biologist (Bioinformatician) with research experience and strong interest in high-throughput genomics, structural bioinformatics, and applied biological data analysis. Presently working as a Data Curator at IBDC, focusing on the curation, annotation, and analysis of protein structure and nucleotide sequence data.

Nikhil Sharma
